Stopped off for a pint yesterday with my wife, dog and soon to arrive baby. This place is fantastic. Really polite staff, view from the pub was amazing, food smelt incredible (didn’t try any but will do next time), toilets were extremely clean, hawkstone on draft was a welcomed surprise. Felt extremely welcomed and the lady behind the bar was very nice to us. Thank you for a lovely pint and can’t wait to come back.

Well it’s a piece of paradise just 10 minutes from Macclesfield town centre. It has breathtaking views of sunsets and their handcrafted wine selection is point-on. Absolutely a must visit!

Visited here whilst staying nearby. Hillary and her partner (I didn't catch his name) were really welcoming and friendly. The views are unmatched and are incredible. The drinks were nice and reasonably priced. The locals were also friendly and seemed welcoming. It was good to be a part of their local community, even if it was just for a short while. The owners here have got big plans for the pub, so it will be good to see how they get on. Good luck and all the best for the future! (Also, the black cat made my evening!)

Lovely little pub took my 92 year old parents in for the 1st time for a Guinees & half . Clean Premises Friendly & Polite Staff Clean Restrooms The Restrooms are outside of the building down 3 steps Free Carpark Great Views History The Hanging Gate is an old Drovers pub, with a history of hospitality stretching over 400 years. Situated in Higher Sutton, on the outskirts of a village 3 miles east of Macclesfield, the second highest pub in Cheshire, the Hanging Gate enjoys spectacular views across the Cheshire Plain. Dating from 1621, this is a proper rustic pub with low ceilings and beams, original stone-flagged floors and roaring fires. The Hanging Gate is a family run freehouse on the edge of the Gritstone trail and Macclesfield Forest – a haven for walkers, mountain bikers, horse riders and families alike. Its rural location and magnificent views make it a destination pub to be enjoyed by all. The History of The Hanging Gate can be dated back to over four hundred years ago when it was a shoemakers workshop owned by John Barratt and his wife Sarah. The building didn’t open as a public house until 1836. At this time the road had a large gate across it so that a toll could be charged to travellers, hence ‘The Hanging Gate’. The pub has grown in size since these times but the ‘half a yard wide’ walls from the original structure are the very same walls within which we welcome you today. In the last 65 years the pub has had no fewer than 17 different landlords, the most recent Mark Thomas being the longest serving licensee at 26 years.

Called in here on Sunday, when passing by bike on an incredibly hot day. Not been there in 50 years ( seriously). What a great place - it has been beautifully renovated, the service was friendly and welcoming. The only problem I had was that after a pint of the excellent beer on offer, I wanted another! Judging by my very small sample the prices seemed more than reasonable too. The solid stone walls and an open window made it feel like it was fitted with very powerful airconditioning. I must try and get back a little more frequently!

Called in for first time just passing desparate for some food. Amazing pizza shack at the rear that also does good coffee and cake. A lot of walkers and cyclists seem to frequent - you buy your pizza outside, and if you want to sit in the pub and have a beer, they will bring food to your table. Landlord very welcoming and have the dog a treat. They even supply hard hats at the door for the low beam . Looks like they are building an outside seating area on a viewing deck at the rear which will be cool when finished. Will definitely return...

Great country pub with amazing food. We were with our dog so we could not go inside but they have two outside seating areas and a ne deck are being built below. Best view will the lower deck and I think it will be finished by 15th July 23. That will be the place to take your special friend and your dog with 2 pints and a pizza from the outside kitchen and enjoy the most amazing view. No shelter outside so make sure it's a nice day. They are closed Mon, Tues and Wednesday.
